  • WMP 7.1 error

Here's a wonderful error message I can't seem to resolve...

Mayby it's time to lower the zif sockel lever to locked position...

jokes aside, That was one of the most stupid error messages I have ever read!

    Hope you find an answer....

let's hope you can work around with this one, Mike

      "SYMPTOMS
When you open an .avi file (a video clip) in an e-mail message, you may receive the following error message:

      Windows Media Player Error -
The operation cannot be performed because the pins are not connected.

      WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, save the .avi file to your local hard disk, and then open it.

To save an attachment that is located in an e-mail message:

Double-click the e-mail message, and then click Save Attachments on the File menu. Select a location to save the file in the Save in box, and then click Save.

          error

          Greebe,

This may only be a partial solution........
Windows Media Player: WMP mini FAQ

"Q: Why do I get the message "The operation cannot be performed because the pins are not connected." when I try to play back a file with WMP?
A: You probably have "Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" set in a multimonitor machine setup. Uncheck this. I have no idea what's going on here, that's just the little I know.

When you surf for as much porn as I do,
you find a way to play every multimedia file you find.

            Thanks Tom!

Here's what I found. If the file, in this case an AVI, is launched from Explorer that resides on the second head (monitor) I get this error (above).

If launched from Explorer on the primary head (monitor) it works fine.

Conclusion: Always have WMP on the same head (monitor) as the place from which the file to be viewed is launched from to work. It is not neccessary to disable or shutdown the second head (monitor) for it to work... and that means from either head (monitor). It does work on either.
