  • DIVX MPEG4 probs with Marvel G400 + K6-2 500

    hi all
I just downloaded the Divx codec http://divx.ctw.cc
and some demos, but I am a little disappointed, not for the quality, but the fact that my K6-2 500 MarvelG400 has a lot of difficulties playing these highly compressed files full screen, and that I don't have overlay-> TV output ;(
With a PII400 from a friend it seems ok to play full screen (+TNT2).
Is the Codec optimized for Pentium only or is my system crazy ?

    Thx for helping me out!

It could be because the Super7 systems have sluggish PCI busses, not to mention some other issues. That's why I switched to Celeron/PII/PIII systems last year.

I've also had problems in the past optimising AMD systems, mainly in the HD subsytem. You may have to try several different DMA drivers to get it all working. I found that with the VIA board I was using, the supplied drivers screwed the system completely, whereas the drivers supplied with W95 worked just fine. Incidentally, the benchmarks were fine, but ACTUAL performance was lousy

          Damn damn ...
          don't understand ...
even on a fresh windows install + latest Windows media player + DIVX codec,
even by lowering resolution to 800*600 , Full screen playing sucks ;(
          I tested a PII 233 + TNT2 of a friend and it works at 800*600!!
          Why not with my K6-2 500 ...

            I have stated it before;
AMD makes great CPU's but the motherboards available to use them with is (SS7) below the watermark!

Works fine for me on my athlon 600 and g400 max but I'm not able to get out on the tv.
Is it possible to do that?

sounds to me like your hardware accelaration isn't kicking in.

rather than change res, change colour depth. i had an ati card that sucked (well, it still kinda sucks actually) fullscreen 16bit colour, but flies along in 32bit colour.

also start->run 'dxdiag' to check your direct-draw stuff etc.
