    Hands down....

    Brave Heart

This has been my favorite movie from the day I saw it. even before Sept. 11th I knew this would forever be my favorite movie. After the 11th, I knew why.

    What's your favorite movie?
Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.

In what catagory? Naming just one makes as much sense as just having one "best picture" at the Oscars.

Western: Unforgiven (but Silverado is close)

Action/Adventure: Raiders of the Lost Ark

    Historical: Braveheart

Romance: Sabrina (the original with Bogart & A. Hepburn)

Comedy: My Girl Friday (version of "Front Page" with Carey Grant & Rosalind Russel)

SciFi/Fantasy: a tie - The Matrix and Dark City

    Animation: Ghost in the Shell

    Dr. Mordrid

My favorite movie, which I just saw for the first time Sunday, is Requiem for a Dream.

      Awesome movie.

I'm gonna have to agree with Dr. Mordrid on the animation pick though, Ghost in the Shell is a superb piece of animation.

Here Lets See If I Can Remember Names

Western: Unforgiven (The Good The Bad & The Ugly is a real close second)

Action/Adventure: Swordfish (More of a SciFi Movie.. but I liked it for the action)

Historical: Braveheart (The Patriot was good as well)

Romance: Debbie Does Dallas (Ok its actually another movie.. but I can't think of the name right now)

Comedy: Something about Mary (I actually have lots of comedy Favorites.. but I pick this one to write down)

SciFi/Fantasy: The Matrix, Star Wars (Original), Star Trek (Original)

Animation: Princess Mononoke... (What a very odd movie.. I would say Ghost in the Shell but I have only seen 3 or 4 minutes of the middle of it.)

Cult Classic: Clockwork Orange, Wizards, Rocky Horror Picture Show... three way tie

Ghost in the Shell is fantastic, but I still have a soft spot (if you can call it that) for Akira.

Princess Mononoke was thinly disguised eco-crap. The animation was good, the story was crap, the ending was UTTER crap, and even in the subtitled version there were several key plot dichotomies.

Ask me about my pet peeve of poor anime translations!

I agree with most of the best sci/fi etc selections so far
but one of my favorite movies of all time would be...

The 10 Commandments by Cecil B. DeMille - sorry if I have his name spelt completly wrong, but i'm sure you know the movie.
Some fantastic special effects for its time.

I can quite easily name just one movie as my favourite film ever.
Non of this dividing into category's, just one film that stands above all others.
Simple. Blade Runner without a doubt.
It cost one penny to cross, or one hundred gold pieces if you had a billygoat.
Trolls might not be quick thinkers but they don't forget in a hurry, either

I only put down Princess Mononoke because its the only one I have watched in the past 7 or 8 years...

So I don't really have anything to compare it with...

oh wait I do think I have Akira on CD here somewhere... I am changing my answer to Akira

                        I'll add two more catagories to my list;

War: Apocalypse NOW! (but Full Metal Jacket is a very close 2nd)

Cult (a tie): Clockwork Orange/Rocky Horror

                        and some honorable mentions:

                        Rear Window (Hitchcock)
                        Touch of Evil (Orson Welles)

Princess Mononoke was very nice. I wouldn't call it "eco-crap". Then again, I'm not an American.
Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

I beg to differ. Princess Mononoke was one of the worst examples of eco-crap I've seen since Lovelocks "The Ages of Gaia" came out. Almost as bad as Captain Planet and the Planeteers. Yecchhh....
