  • PS/2 (Not Game system) Issues

My father seems to have a problem. A couple of weeks ago his PS/2 mouse port decided that it didn't like having anything on it and decided to quit. The mouse (Dexxa Optical) does work on other machines on the PS/2 port but this board does not like PS/2 mice at all. Now his keyboard is also starting to get 'flakey' with keys being pressed but nothing happening (rarely right now). So my question is as follows: Are the PS/2 ports 'dead' or is something else wrong?

    Specs

    Chaintech 6ATA4 (VIA chipset)
    Intel Celeron 333
    128MB RAM
    20GB Hard drive
    Win 98
    etc.

    Thanks for any answers.

It's entirely possible that the riser that the keyboard and mouse ports are on is shot. I had that happen once with a motherboard.

    Bummer.

I'd probably pull the mainboard and touch up the solder joints with a micro-iron, but then I'm used to doing such things.

Thanks Gurm and Dr. Mordrid. I guess that it probably is blown, and I just wanted some comfirmation on that. Thanks for the replies.

And Dr. Mordrid, the last time I touched a soldering iron was about 5 years ago, so I'm guessing that soldering the joints on is rather unlikely.
