WinXP and MS Proxy Server 2.0

Anybody have winxp 2600 running on a network that has MS Proxy server 2.0?. The proxy client doesn't install.

Hmmm, I haven't tried it but it does work on 2000. Go to the Proxy Page and try the 2000 procedure. Mabye that will work but it's highly likely you'll have to use ISA Server. I recommend a dedicated proxy like Cacheflow or somesuch anyway. MUCH faster.

Okay, let me clarify. This is the network at work which I set up this network last year March. It consists of a single Server (a P!!! 550 Katmai with 256 MB RAM) running Win2K Advanced Server, MS Proxy Server 2.0 and MS Exchange Server 5.5. The client machines run Win98SE, WinMe, Win2K Pro and I just installed WinXP on my workstation for tesing (seriously). None of the clients give any problems to get on the Internet once the MS Proxy client is installed. The client won't install on the XP machine. I was wondering if there are any special issues with XP and proxy server 2.0 . I was thinking that I may have to setup a win2k server on the network, install ISA server evaluation on it and get its client installed on the XP box, then reconfigure it for the existing server.

I didn't think you needed the MS Proxy client if you were using a newish version of IE, (5.0 or greater).

Again to clarify, Proxy client is not needed by winnt 4.0, 5.0 or win9x clients to browse. The browser can be setup to use the proxy server address. If you want smtp pop etc, the easiest way is to use the client and set up the proxy permissions. For some reason proxy client doesn't install on xp. I have yet to install isa server. Will try to do so later

I Am A Fscking Genius

WooHoo. Desperation is the mother of invention. Mucked around with mspclnt.ini to match the one in mspclnt directory. Copied Setup.exe to isaclnt directory. Made a copy of that setup.exe and called it setup_a.exe. renamed setup_a.lst to setup.lst. Run setup.exe and it installs. And it works. Didn't have to install the ISA server, just expanded it and put the client files in a share and do the above changes. Woohoo.
