  • Confused about filters when doing VHS -> VCD conversion

I'm making my first VCD and I need a couple things cleared up:

    1) I've heard that VCD does not support interlaced video and I've also read that non-interlaced video can cause problems. So do I deinterlace the video if I'm making a VCD? What about an SVCD?

    2) If I do deinterlace do I do this before cropping and resizing or afterwards?

    Thanks for any help.

The VCD preset of your encoder will handle delacing.

The encoders VCD preset should handle resizing the video as well.

As to resizing, at least with TMPGEnc and DV source at 720 x480, I find encoding is quicker and usually noticably better if I crop 16 pixels off the side so the effective input resolution is 704x480 this then resizes nicely to 352x240 for NTSC VCD.
