  • DVD-R/RW or DVD+RW

    Hi all,
who will it win DVD-R/RW or DVD+RW?
Philips announced a new drive for PC in October.
This drive will write a full lenght DVD movie in 1 hour( write
    speed 2.5x).Besides Philips announced a standalone DVD+RW
recorder to write directly from TV.
Technical details show DVD+RW would be better than DVD-R/RW
because allows to write like in multisession.

This fight won't be resolved for at least a year, perhaps more.

Make your purchase choice and enjoy it. By the time the fight is over you'll be choosing your 2nd drive

DVD+RW offers backwards compatibility to allmost all existing DVD players, as it uses the characteristics of both single layered and double layered DVD discs... DVD-R and DVD-RW need special support from the players.

This alone makes the DVD+RW have a great advantage over DVD-R/RW standard imho.

It's just too bad that it won't be possible to record anything over 4.7(or .9?) GB on a DVD+RW.... it's technically impossible to guarantee backwards compabitibility with existing players if they adapt the standard to support larger formats. So we probably will end up with doublesided DVD+RW discs if this standard will be adopted as universal DVD recording standard.

Afaik most of the largest players in the market now all support DVD+RW

My experience with a Philips CD-RW (804) makes me leary of a DVD+RW from Philips.

Actual compatability with existing players, not claims, will decide the issue for me.
