I have just installed nero & upgraded to 5.5.4.0... all is well until i come to write a CD i get an error during the simulation... the following is the log report... [Writer HP CD12ri]

Hope it makes sense to someone, coz it doesn't to me ?

I have gone with Nero, since Roxio/Adaptec EZCDcreator5 Platinum will not work on my machine after a clean Win2k install ! It used to run fine before !!!

Are you sure that drive can do DAO?
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

YOu mean DAO = Disk at Once ? I guess so, it's their latest Cd-Writer ! It should ! The model is cd-writer cd12ri from HP.

here's the spec sheet for it

You saying you actually got Nero to talk to the HP12i?

The latest version I have is 5.5.3.5 and it refuses to speak HP12. I have mailed Nero asking when/if it will be supported with no reply yet. Their official supported drives list also does not include the 12i.

Is there an indication in the 5.5.4.0 version you downloaded that it should be supported?

DONT YOU JUST HATE 11M DOWNLOADS AS AN "UPGRADE"?

win2k doesn't come with an ASPI layer which is need by a burner.

i'm a bit hesitant installing aspi files as the last i did that i got into files troubles, machine went a bit silly ! Whatcha think ? The new version of HP MyCD called Record NOw [produced by Veritas] worked fine when i installed it....

Shouldn't Adaptec EZCD Creator 5 install ASPI files when it install on Win2k on it's own ?

have you tried checking using aspichk.exe from
                    ftp://ftp.adaptec.com/software_pc/aspi/aspichk.exe
to see if a layer is present & up to date?

I have been running ECDC4 reliably under W2K with SP2 - and can burn with Directcd or Easycd - no coasters yet.

Was running Nero on my old Hp9310 reliably as well.

No such luck with the new HP12 though

                        ----------------------------------------------------

edit - Have this morning removed ECDC4 and installed ECDC5 with the 5.02 patch. Easycd seems to be happy to use the HP12n in my system - 7 disks completed with no hassles. Direct cd 5 says it is unable to speak HP12n and therefore refuse to even start. Have mailed Roxio and asked about it about 2 hours ago.

LVR, I think my problrm is a Win2k issue, even though it was running fine before the re-install, but EeasyCDCreator5 refuses to start, it keeps crashing everytime i start it ! I have re-installed about 6 times... no hope... weird ! I wonder if i can fix it some othert way, Norton Utilities or something ! There seems to be a conflict somewhere how the hell do i figure it out ?

Did you perhaps have ECDC4.0.5 running on that machine before you installed ECDC5 - maybe the basics for W2K support was there before you installed ECDC5, and with the clean install you wiped it.
