  • Max Payne doesn't like win2k?

Howdy all. I picked up Max Payne today, first game I have bought since Tribes 2, and it doesn't even work.

Every time I try to install it I get an error. I am running Win2k (SP2). Has anyone else had a problem like this or does this game just hate me? The disc itself is fine, it installs no problem on my bros 98 machine.

I thought the Matrox Gaming forum was for topics relating games to Matrox hardware, and such as that. I could be way off though, so if any mods want to move it don't hesitate on my behalf.

What exactly is Application Compatibility Update 2? More importantly, what does it do and are there any downfalls to having it?

Whats the error your getting? It might have something to do with Safedisc. I run into problems with that everyonce in awhile with my Asus 40X drive. If I run into it I run it in my HP CD Burner and it works fine that way. I've been running it with W2K with no problems at all...

          Reverend,

It´s a Microsoft patch for W2K that ensures compatibility with older/problematic software... I think it´s for games only, the list is huge.. I just installed it without thinking (600Kb download). I don´t think that there are any downfalls, though. It does nothing for Max Payne (I think), cause Payne is a recent game and it supports W2K (a couple of my friends have W2K and play Max Payne without that patch). I can´t remember where I got it, though... somewhere in the bowels of microsoft.com

Use window's update. No point in searching all over microsoft.com for updates.
