  • ATI to announce integrated P4 chipset before the end of 2001

According to the statements of ATI representatives, the company is quite resolute about integrated core logic for Pentium4 platform. It means, they are going to release, or, at least, announce and show A4 code-named chipset before the end of this year.

If you think that ATI`s A4 core-logic is just another cheap solution, like VIA`s P4M266, you are absolutely wrong! We have found the specifications of A4 and we assume it is going to be a really nice one:
Integrated north-bridge memory controller with the RV200 UMA graphics core based on 0.15 micron. It is RV200, not RADEON. It means, it supports HydraVision and we think that manufacturers of the motherboards and PCs will not miss the chance to declare multi-monitor support for their cheap integrated products.
Supports SDR and DDR SDRAM via 64-bit bus line. Moreover, A4 supports PC2700 DDR, which results in 2.7 GB/s peak memory bandwidth.
There is no information regarding I/O controller or south-bridge from ATI. We think it is quite logical for them to use controllers from third developers, VIA or ALi, for example.
Almost all important announcements during fall take their place at IDF or Comdex Fall. We doubt ATI is going to announce A4 core-logic at IDF, because it has already begun and there is no information concerning chipset from canadian developer at the moment. So, ATI may announce A4 at Comdex Fall, in this case they will have to compete with P4M266, which is going to be announced late fall as well.

As you see, it will be hot not only with discrete graphics, but with integrated too.
According to the latest official figures, 43% of all statistics are totally worthless...

    Matrox to follow?!

First nVidia, now ATI, will Matrox join the queue? Matrox were on of the first to come out with dualhead.. If they dont do something, Matrox will be left behind (Voodoo comes to mind)

I will be fully supportive of MSolarSpot SouthBridge chipset (at least they can swap northbridges for intel and amd ala VIA style)
Life is a bed of roses. Everyone else sees the roses, you are the one being gored by the thorns.
