    win98se only boots/restarts using option 2 (bootlog.txt) or 3 (safe-mode), but not option 1 (normal).

Seems strange that it would boot with 2 but not 1 as they are the same thing except 2 logs the boot process.

Yeh that is odd apart from logging it doesn't display the logo if my memory serves me rigth. I did have a computer once that wouldn't boot when the logo was displayed. I turned off the logo and the system would boot normally.

the logging function may be slowing down the boot enough for something that's failing to respond.

        try 'boot log analyzer'.

          1) the logo is turned off

          2) what is a 'boot log analyzer'?

          3) the system hangs at the moment when the GUI would normally load

          4) if someone wants to look at my bootlog.txt, here it is

Start removing cards one buy one until you find the guilty party. If you remember installing any software and hardware before it started remove that. Use the version conflict manager to see if anything been changed.

                What the heck...

...is CANYON3D.SYS? My Win98SE hasn't anything like this.

Skim your Registry and Ini-files for the load command for this one. Delete this first. Also try to identify which piece of equipment needs this file and remove this one first.

But: i am not sure. So proceed with caution. Good luck.

The Terratec DMX uses the Canyon3D chip, so the CANYON3D.SYS file would be normal for HIS system.
