Don't try to run X servers on anything based on SIS...

I just spent 3 days learning the ins and outs of the linux X-Windows Servers (In my case XFree86... is there any others?)

and it still won't run in grapical mode...

It's a very well documented problem... so at least I am not the only one.

Well back to windows for me until I head to the parents and pick up some older vid cards to play with (I think I have a Cirrus Logic and an ATI and an older Diamond vid card kicking around the workbench over there)

Oh and I did try all the options that worked for other people when editing the XF86Config file in /etc/X11

    Option 'no_accel'
    Option 'no_linear'
    Option 'no_bitblt'
    Option 'no_imageblt'

    and there were others too...

MMMmmm if I had gotten it to work I would have been lucky to have non accelerated Grapics in I think it was 320*200 in 16 colors

I ran into this problem last year when I wanted to set up an all Linux box with a spare computer we have. Forgot which card it was though, but looked around and numerous others had the same thing too. I thought newer XFree86 would fix it, but I guess not.
