  • bad Write perfomance in W2K!

I had to reinstall W2K becase HDD failures and now the HDD performance is down in the drain!

Hdd writes are never abowe 10~12MB/s

    Hdd reads are ok!

In W98 the HDD's are perfoming normaly with 25~30MB/s writes & reads!!

Both the IBM DTLA on the via onboard controller and the raid array exhibits this behauviur in W2K!

It is like some "Write verify" option is set!

    Do any one know why?

    I am desperate!

If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

Howdy. 2 days ago I set up a raid array and threw win2k on it, had horrible all around problems. I did all my mobo updates which helped a little, but what really helped was getting sp2. Been running wonderfully since.

      Solved it!

      EUREKA!

It was that I had changed PCI reg 52 from 6B to EB!

It put a 10MB lid on avery write operation!

But the funny thing is that it don't happen on W98!!!

          To much!!!???

I changed one pci register and got the result I wanted!

Now that I know why the read speeds are so bad and that I can fix it "on the fly" by changing back the register it aint that much of a problem since my HDD's are mostly in sleep mode anyway when I am browsing and such!

I changed one settings that had positive and negative effects!

And Keep in mind that the bad effects are only on W2K!
