  • WinME + Network problems

This is very strange, I just came back from a LAN party and all of a sudden when I hook up my computer back at home, I am having network problems. The only thing I changed was letting Windows manually obtain an IP address. I changed it back to my old settings when I got home, and in winipcfg it shows me this:

    2 Ethernet adapter :

    IP Address. . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . :

When it should have an IP Address of 192.168.0.1 and a Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0. I believe I fixed it yesterday by checking "Set this protocol to be the default protocol.", but today the problem is occuring again and it is still checked. My network settings are as follows:

    DNS Configuration:
    Host - Downstairs
    Domain - @home
    DNS Server Search Order - 24.*.*.*, 24.*.*.*

    Gateway: Empty

    WINS Configuration: Disables WINS Resolution

IP Address: Specify an IP Address - 192.168.0.1
    Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
(Detect connection to network media is checked)

Advanced: Set this protocol to be the default protocol.

Have you tried to release all and then renew all using WinipCFG.
Otherwise removing the tcp/ip protocol and then re-install it might solve the problem.

Which NIC is giving you problems? The one with which you connect to @home, or your NIC for the network you're running?

In case it's the @home NIC, did you reinstall the @home (God forgive me that I opt this) drivers & programs?

In case it's the network you are running, then your Domain seems to be wrong. Did both NICs set themselves to the @home Domain? (Is that the right setup for adsl or cable?)

A release of the TCP/IP was what solved my last problems after a LAN party. Just delete TCP/IP in Network Configuration, reboot, upon coming back, reinstall the TCP/IP protocol and reboot again to get all settings back.

I rember reading somewhere on www. that @home is using a proxy which is loading with windows, which also could be part of the problem. On http://cable-dsl.home.att.net/#HomeProxy you can read how to un-install that ( you can always re-install )

            try removing the internet sharing.
            get online directly.
            get network running.
            re-install sharing.

ICS was very finicky on my home net, I gave up running extra 'old' pc after a year and got the linksys for $100
