  • New drivers, Win98, 6.28 drivers, opinion with Marvel G400

My preliminary finding so far, working with Win 98, Marvel G400, and my video editing software, is pretty good results. The speed and easy use of my video editing software like Media Studio 5.0 and Photoshop 5.0 seem to be working pretty good, with no crashes. While I have just done only a little bit of work, so far so good. Codecs, Photos, and Video all working good and rendering speed good. I was playing some games, my flight sims, EAW, CFS2, and Falcon 4. The gaqmes are working about like the the older driver versions. But the Video and Photo software processing seem to really be working good.

    Hi

As one of the last holdouts still using win98, figured I'd best chime in here

Try this if you want... Install the leaked beta drivers, doing a test capture, maybe a benchmark to see where you're at...

If you've got 6.28 installed already, just have windows keep the 5 driver files -- if not, expand out 6.28, and expand out the driver files using something like winzip. Copy this over your 6.27 install, again running a benchmark or test etc...

The beta drivers add some questionable and unfinished(?) wdm support, but just don't use it when you have the option. I've found this setup to be the fastest & most stable so far, though I haven't really done more then check it out.

As for the vtools, I like the beta files in the windows system folder, using the 1.55 version of vcap16.dll since it has better color to my eyes, but this is a problematic setup if you don't want to use the beta remote, and the vcap file has to be patched for yuv manually to my knowledge.

FWIW, while far too complicated IMO, one can copy the vtools folder contents from 155 into the folder for the beta -- this requires two installs, one for each version, saving the contents of 155 elsewhere, installing the beta, then copying over the 155 files NOT replacing any duplicates. With the exception of vcap16.dll, the files in your windows\system folder should match the last installed vtools.

The advantage I found is better capture, and the TV looks better to me with the beta remote, which also handles playlists a bit nicer. Version 1.55 has more control, and is still usable with the exception of the tuner -- I use the line in anyway for capture.

If you try this, you might have to make sure HwCodecID=dmb1 appears under [HardwareACC] & PlayDll1=C:\PROGRA~1\MATROX~1\MCLPlugin.dll is uncommented under [Playback] in ulead32.ini.
