  • OUTLOOK disaster!

    hey all,

I seem to have lost my Outlook 2000 mailbox files ! My PC crashed [win2k went crazy!], i re-istalled to a new directory... now i am trying to find my mailbox files so i can import... i can't ! I cannot even tell what the extensions for the mailbox files are.. i have searched in every way to find the files... no hope ! I need help since i have a year and a half's worth of e-mails in there !

Any sort of guidance will be appreciated.

Well, if I remember correctly and you haven't actively directed Outlook to place the file differently, it should be like this:
    %drive%\Documents and Settings\%profile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Outlook\

But it might be easier to just search your hole drive for *.pst

Just to be sure, did you check "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected system files"?

Yeah, the system is running an idle program on each cpu. It will show 50% usage on each processor. Hit ctrl shift esc and click on the processes tab and see what the is taking up the most CPU, most likely you will see system Idle Process taking up 98-99 percent.

YUP! I have idle system at 99% ... one cpu seems [from the grph] to be in use more than the other.....is that normal ??? I don't think it was like that before ? If it is not supposed to be the case how do i rectify the problem ??

It won't cause any problems whatsoever. It's there to issue HLT commands to the cpu while it's doing nothing, once a request is made to the cpu, it backs off.

i am OK with the system idle process being at 97-99.. all the other single processor machines have it too... but what i don't understand is why is my CPU usage so high ? The other machines are only running at 7-9% CPU usage [they are all single CPU - mine is dual]

O h i have installed the DV500 card, but have not loaded the drivers for it ? [shows up as exclamation marks in Device Manager] could that be causing the high CPU usage?

Also, i have converte my system from a ACPI Multiprocessor to MPS Multiprocessor [I have been told it will run more stable with the DV500 card] - i can almost say that that was what reduced the CPU usage last time i did it but am not sure..

                          so whatcha think?

                          thanx

If you are getting 97-99 system idle usage, then there isn't anything taking up processor time. If there were a process going taking up cpu time, it would be listed there.
