  • Dell Inspiron 4000?

Someone offered Dell Inspiron 4000 for CDN $ 1700.00.

He says it is unopened box, and I am not too sure about the spec.

I checked the Dell website, but it says from $12xx.00 US.

    Is this a good deal?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

That depends on if you are paying taxes or not.

60 dollars canadian will get you 40 or so american... if I remember from my first trip to an american casino.

    hence

    1200 american would be
1900 canadian. (This is a wild guess off the top of my head)

So.. if you can get it for 1700 unopened (And bargain off the 15% taxes)

I would say you are getting a 200 dollar deal.

Make sure to bargain good and hard though.

Actually, I met the guy tonight, and somehow the configuration is a bit different.

On Dell Canada, Inspiron 4000 comes with 20GB HD, 128 MB Memory. On Dell USA, it comes with 10GB HD, 128 Memory.

He has the canadian configuration, and now he's asking for $1400.00 CDN including everything.

The exact same configuration on Dell Canada is $2899.00 + tax + shipping.

Now, it seems like a good deal. Does anyone have other thoughts that I missed?

      Thanks in advance.

If you can touch it without getting burnt, then it sounds like a good deal ! otherwise I would run like ....

The only thing I'd be worried about is whethere it was ligitimately purchased. Coming from corporate IT, i know how much laptops have a tendency to grow legs and walk away.

If it is legite, i.e. he can show you an invoice from Dell or the like, then I'd say go for it.
