  • Cable Router Survey

Ok, I'm finally going to get Cable internet service from Comcast!!!!!!

Scheduled the 19th of this month....YEHAWWWWW!!

What Routers are you guys using and what should I avoid????

I heard good things about the Netgear RO318.

I have also been considering the Netgear RT314 and the RP114.

I need something that will give me easy online gaming access and is easy to use for a networking neophyte...LOL

How many ports do you want?
      I use a Linksys 4 port.
      I would recomend it too.

        Hi Paul!

I have the RT311 (same as the 314 but no inbuilt hub). It works great for me - easy to set up and get going. Only one slight problem was that I found that net access was sped up if I set up the PC's DNS servers to be my ISP's instead of the router's.

Be sure to read: http://www.practicallynetworked.com - a ton of greta info on many routers.

Me has a LinkSYS 4 port. It be very kewl. They also have an 8 port version and a wireless/switch version...etc. The new firmware allows it to do just about anything you want it to do. It's very nice and Jammrock likes it.

              After installing many .....

Linksys routers, I would highly recommend them. Linksys just released QOS technology but I am unsure of the extra features....the other units my employer had me put in were ADDTRON 4 port units and they sucked HARD. So we finallly stopped installing them.

If I had the cash I'd have bought the NetGear RT314.

As is stands, I'm just running an old P233 w/ Win98se and NAT32 along with BlackIce Defender.

                Been working great so far.

                      D-Link DI-707

                      I've got the D-Link DI-707 7-port switch

It works perfectly, easy to set up, when I lose power it just starts working again when power returns

I have the cable modem going into the 707, then the 7 ports are set for 7 different rooms, then a 24-port bridge allows me to have multiple points in each room so when I move furniture I just move plug in to the port on the bridge for the needed wall (3 points in each room, prox)
