  • 'Save settings on exit ' settings won't go away!

A couple of weeks ago, Win98se froze on me. Now, On reboot, about 12 instances of windows explorer, one 'control panel', and a 'my computer' window open up.

I CANNOT STOP THESE FROM OPENING UP EVERY TIME I START MY PC!! (except by pressing shift whenever it starts up)

I think that the registry has taken a hit during the freeze up.
Where are the 'Save settings on exit ' settings stored?

All my startup folders are empty. I've ran Regclean a couple of times and the problem still exists

    WHAT IS GOING ON????
..Needless to say, Windows support Knowledge base is useless!!

    Thanks in anticipation

Try this, it´s probably something wrong on Windows startup. It´s much better than Regclean.

I had a similar experience when I installed Internet Explorer Public Preview 6.0.
I couldn't fix it until I installed I.E 6.0.2501.0001IS then it went away by itself !
I tried everything, but nothing helped.

You can try to do a scanreg /restore from dos and see if you can restore a previous version of your registry.

dos = Safe mode dos prompt

That's interesting, I am running ie 6.0.2469.0002 . It didn't happen immediately after installation, maybe a couple of days later.

Where did you get the later version?

            I have sorted the problem.

I uninstalled IE 6 and it went away after a couple of reboots.

Perhaps I'll wait for the official release.
