  • It ain't looking goodat all (x2)

With the recent info posted on reliable websites, all the different upcoming Radeon 2 and Radeon 3 chip versions, with the added threat of S3's Columbia and NVIDIA's NV17 (GeForce 3 MX) will give the upcoming G550 and the future G800 a REALLY HARD TIME... I just hope Matrox will have -GREAT- products to compete, but I don't think they will go the way of the dodos...

My 1/100th of a canadian polar bear,

How fast do you need to get before nvidia explodes. What I find interesting is that a lot of people want the geforce3 yet nothing will really take use of it's power till like next year. DX8 is barely being used today, maybe a few games use it but most games still using DX7.

So the next matrox card doesn't have to be a geforce3, even if it's 2/3rd as fast as a geforce2 it will be plenty good.

2/3? What a waste! I could spend 50 bucks on cooling and overclock my MAX to get but 2/3 the performance of a GF2.

I honestly believe that if Matrox doesnt take the performance card market seriously it is going to sneek up and steal the business market from then, and then they will be out of a market and have to result to things other than video cards.

I dont need GF2 Ultra/GF3 performance, but polygon pusshin power of a GTS will be a welcomed introduciton and would help me justify the Matrox premium when purchasing a card in the near future.

I don't think you would be able to reach 2/3 of the 3D performance of the GeForce 2 GTS... I managed to overclock my G400 to 175core/233mem, and my Radeon is still muc, MUCH faster...

I would be utterly disappointed if matrox next card is slower than the cards nvidia and ati released a whole year ago.

It will not be faster than a Geforce 2 MX.

The G550 will be nearly as fast as a Radeon 32 MB DDR in most case... Faster than a G2 MX (mostly due to the DDR memory) but probably a little slower than a GeForce 2 Pro/GTS/Ultra...

Muted, why do you think this forum is called "The Crystal Ball". It is so we hopeful matrox users and followers can speculate and say how fast matrox's next card will be, and what features it will have, without a constant barage of people reminding us we know nothing :-)

Anyway, Me, knowing nothing, thinks matrox next card will be as fast a a geforce 2 gts. Any slower than this and matrox would not bother to release it.

I bet that the 550 will do fine for the market it will be marketed for... if you want gaming performance, wait for M to announce a gaming card

I don'T really car anymore about the G550 3D speed, because if I buy one, it will end up in my work box... My game box AGP slot will probably be filled by a Radeon 2 or 3 (which will support Hydravision), or even a Columbia (which will be sampling IN A FEW WEEKS)

                            Francis,

Muted, BTW, rugger is right, this is "The Crystal Ball forum"; all these threads were already banished from the "Matrox Hardware" forum, and this is the place to discuss about UNRELEASED/UNANNOUCED stuff, like the G550; the only way we can evaluate the G550 performance is by comparing its rumored specs to the specs of current/upcoming products from other companies...
