Something is obviously wrong with Slashdot.
The connection must have been cut half way through.
I didn't catch it because it seems their downmost 1000 users only account for ~9000 WUs, hence making it seem they "only" lost ~8000 WUs.
The next stats will show them doubling their members.
Sorry about this mishap, it will never
happen again.
