  • “old-timers”

I’m sure there are a lot of team members who owns old computers (386, 486, Pentiums, AMD K5, K6 Cyrix) that they don’t use for SETI because they are to slow and it would ruin their average times. I have created a shared account called “old-timers” for all the old (worthless) computers that we own. So if you have let’s say an old 486 or Cyrix lying around why don’t you install SETI on it and start crunching away submitting your units to oldoldtimer@hotmail.com and help the MURC team in the SETI club rankings. If we all do that I am sure we could produce at least 50+ units/day (that is 1500 units/month) for the team. Also it would be nice to see a bunch of crapy computer rise in the MURC rankings! My old Compaq 100MHz is now happily crunching away units for the account and Sir Hitech already joined with a 90 and a 133MHz Pentium. Everyone is welcome to join and there is no need to worry about high average times. Remember the more computers we have crunching for the team the better! Any comments are welcome!

I'll see if I can get a K6-266 to join this account.
Remember, this is for the team. Your names will not be listed(ok, on this board), but you'll definetely feel better.

      Thats right Mega!
Let's see already HedsSpaz joined (486 DX66, Pentium 120, and K6-2 350)as did Sir Hitech (Pentium 90, Pentium 133)and my Pentium 90@100 is happily crunching.
If anyone is thinking of joning the account feel free to e-mail me or post in this forum so that we know who is helping!

                    Dyre,

put it on the oldtimers account, it would ruin your average time.

I've put my PII 350 MHz at work on the oldtimers account. It's crunching at the 10th WU.

You've put a PII 350 in the oldtimers account?? ,isn't it a bit too fast for them? ,10.5hrs/WU (ish)

                              Assim

It does seem a bit extravagant doesn't it.
But seeing that I got into the race a bit late, the only competitive element for me is the average WU time.
Maybe if I get more computers under my command I'll start submitting in my own account.
At work I've got quite the opportunity to set up some workstations (and servers), but I cant't get around the moral obstacle of using the computers for this purpose.
Well, I don't really have moral qualms about it but I work for a tele communications firm, and it wouldn't be good business if you know what I mean (it's not a playground).
I would appreciate hearing about how others have tackled this situation though.

Btw, when I submit this I'm a MURCer
