  • vids:dmb1 error in MSP

    Hi,

    Hope someone can help me.
I'm trying to edit my vacation video with MSP 5.2 VE. First part goes just fine but then suddenly the video parts go all gray and when I try to preview the video parts the preview window returns the error "Video not available. Cannot find 'vids:dmb1' decompressor". I can hear the audio just fine.
The video plays fine in Windows Media Player

I captured the video with RRS in 352x288 in MJPEG.

Try re-installing Video Tools. Apparently the MJPEG codec wasn't installed completely right.

Beware that uninstallations of Matrox junk aren't always complete; to be sure you have a clean install, you need to locate the uninstall utility on the Matrox site. It will uninstall both the Video Tools and the main drivers, so be sure to have both handy.

      I've tried re-installing the VideoTools.
Now when I open the dvp MSP opens correctly but when I scroll to the right it terminates with the following errors :

      Microsoft Visual C++ run-time library
      d:\....\Veditor.EXE
      abnormal program termination

Clicking OK will terminate MSP and Veditor gives the following error (twice) :

VEDITOR caused an invalid page fault in
      module U32ZLIB.DLL at 0217:00882b82.

Should I try to reinstall MSP or start the project all over again by recapturing the video and start again from the beginning.

Certainly try re-installing MSP first, if those are your two options. But I have another suggestion: In C:\WINDOWS, the Ulead32.ini file holds the settings for Veditor and the others. Rename it, delete it, or move it so MSP can't find it. This will reset most everything to defaults. Try what you're doing again.

Your .DVP file could also be corrupt. Not much more you can do here than start with an empty project.

If you do want to re-install MSP, you most definitely need to delete Ulead32.ini for the full effect. I might also suggest deleting a few of the other MSP-related .ini files there. If you're not sure which is which, don't bother.

Re-capturing your files is the last thing you should try, but it's also a possible cause. Unlikely, from your post, but possible. Videos with dropped frames can cause crashes in RRICMEXT.DLL. I still think your problem is in MSP itself, but if you run out of things to try...

          Alas, no luck.

Tried the .ini trick first. That didn't help
Uninstalled MSP and reinstalled up to version 5.2. The problems remains.
Sometimes I can see thumbnails in the time line, sometimes I just see a blank box.
At different point MSP will crash (but always when there is an avi involved, not when I'm just playing with picture files, text, etc.)
I now also get the same kind of error message as described before but now in MFC40.DLL.

I've just crashed MSP again and now it even refuses to start from the program menu.

          Hope there are more suggestions
