  • Problem with Matrox Video Capturing...

I just got the card. It's the Matrox Marvel G400-TV. The capture worked the
first day. But the next day when I tried to capture pressing the record
button in the TV Remote, a error message comes up saying:
-----------------------------------------Unable to record using the current
    settings.
Make sure the path to your recording is still valid. If it is, try lowering
the record settings on the "Recording" property sheet, or lower your display
resolution and color palette settings. (A 16-bit color palette is
recommended) If you're still unable to record, try reinstalling your Matrox
    video software.
    ---------------------------------------------
I tried changing resolutions and reinstalling. I also uninstalled and
installed the new drivers/video utils. The same error message occurred in
other resolutions also. The TV tuner works. I can see the picture and
everything. TV Out is fine also. It's just the capturing got messed up
somehow. I also have a STB TV Tuner which is still in my computer. When i
first installed the matrox everything worked great. But then I uninstalled
all the STB drivers. Im not sure if this caused the problem. I'm gonna try
taking out the STB card from my computer and seeing if the Marvel works
again. I also got another problem. I cannot output AVI's. I can output
MPEG's but the sound is gone. When I output a realmedia video it works fine
with sound+audio. Please help me out if you got any additional info. I
really need to be able to capture again soon... It was all working great
till today. I have already emailed Tech support but I have heard that
    sometimes they dont answer...

My Marvel G400 is sharing IRQ 09 with my Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI 64V
Sound card, it is the ES1371 chip. I don't know how to change the IRQs.
I have taken out my STB card and reinstalled the drivers for the Marvel and
still have gotten nowhere... Please help me out
    Thanx

Under Computer Properties (right-click on My Computer, hit properties), the Device Manager tab has a list of every hardware device in your system. Find the Sound Blaster, open its properties, browse to Resources, turn automatic settings off and see if you can't change the IRQ to something else.

I really don't know if this will work; the PCI world is whacked to me. If all else fails, consult the Matrox Hardware or General Hardware forums.

I tried that with no luck. Although I do have 2 IRQ's free but I can't get the Matrox to either one from my Phoenix Bios or Windows. -_- Could this IRQ settings be messing up my capturing?
      Thanx

        playa,

I would definitely remove the STB TV tuner card... the Marvel will blow it away performance-wise, anyway.

I've found that there's no easy way to resolve IRQ conflicts when you add new hardware. The best way to ensure system stability is to remove all the cards in your system and install them one-by-one (folks may disagree with me here, but I stand by my results).

        1. Get all the latest drivers for your cards and put them in a directory on your hard drive. Also get earlier, stable drivers if applicable.
        2. Reboot in safe mode - then go into your System settings / device manager and remove your video card, sound card, basically all the 'cards' in your computer.
        3. For video, select the standard PCI/VGA driver.
        4. Turn off the computer, open it up, take out all the cards. Sell your STB TV tuner
        5. Put in the Marvel, boot up, load a stable driver set from your hard drive (not the CD that came with your card). You can use the CD if you want, but you'll just upgrade the drivers later anyway.
        6. Computer will ask to reboot - do so, run it for a while, put it through the paces, make sure it doesn't crash. If it does, choose an earlier driver set (I tend to hoard all of Matrox's drivers for just this reason). In this event if you can probably use the drivers on the CD.
        7. Repeat steps 5-6 for your other devices (cards).

This /should/ ensure that a PnP BIOS chooses the right IRQ's. Too often people just throw in a new device and expect the PnP to sort things out, and it's not that smart.

My Ensoniq AudioPCI Sound card (SoundBlaster 64V ES1371) is an integrated chip with my motherboard......other than that I have removed all my cards except for the Matrox and the ISA Ethernet card.

          Thanx Again

Thanx for all the help guys, I got it working. If anyone else gets this message try this. Reinstalling Windows over your current windows. It will replace any missing or corrupted files that you may need..
