  • You have won, Maggi

Bad message for me and for the Matroxusers Seti Group.
From now on it is forbidden to run Seti on any machine at my employee's office (Ision Internet AG Lübeck).
This will cripple our WU output to 4-5 WU's a day, maximum.
The badder is that we lost most of our members (from 6 now to 2 members)in the last week to the "NonIntelUsers" group.

If it makes sense to continue with SETI is questionable. The rest of Alpha Centauri first has to rethink the situation.

    Cons Maggi

It would be worse if they took along their WU's MMx4. How come your boss said no? Was it the new cuty pie that complained?

      No Jord,

It wasn't the boss nor the cuty pie. It was some overreacting guy who has the right to do so. I'm just an apprentice, that means I have no rights.
He believes that SETI keeps port 13765 of our Proxy open the whole time. I told him that he is totally wrong, that Seti connects only one time, when it sends data or recieves data.
      That's live.
I have another example with what stupids I have to work here.
Ision Lübeck won't sell any AMD Processor. Most of them believe that every AMD Prozessor is incompatible with every Software on the market! The most reason for them is that they believe that Athlon's and K6's are incompatible with NT-4.0, the OS we sell most with PC's.

      Get me out of here.

You could set up setiQ and set it to only connect when you tell it to. So that you could monitor that port everytime you flushed. And you could show your boss that the port would only stay open for a few minutes.

Although I don't think setiQ is compatable with intel CPU's with less then 500kb of cache (jj )

            HiHi

            I have a plan,hehe

Must first figure out if it works... it would give me some more WU's if I would set up the 2 PC's under my admin and the PC of the other Cruncher at Ision (Hi Martin!) to crunch with the commandline version and the Maggi batches. Then I could setup 20 WU's per PC and send them once they are ready to.
The "wannabe boss" wouldn't see that I think...

            Wish me luck!

Can't seti connect via the 80 port.
The firewall at work only allows connection direct from client machines through that port, I redirect seti to it using the -proxy and everhing works ok. I block all 1024+ ports.

I use the same method, we can only connect to the internet via a proxy, so the "-proxy" is needed.

But we changed the strategy now. We have 3 PC's under our direct administration. We had 5 Comps crunching at firm, we lost 2. The 3 comps left are now crunching 20 WU's each before they send them back. Because of that we had to use the cmd_line client, which seems to be a little bit faster on that machines. So see our Stats jump it 20 WU steps.
