  • SETI@MURC - Who is the fastest?

Hello fellow setees, received this in the mail today:

    "Hi,

"The Register" is having a contest about trying to find the person and
hardware configuration that achieved the smallest time to analyze a work
unit. Since MatroxUsers have a team on it it would be nice to find out who's
the ONE ("And There Can Be Only One" ... at least at MatroxUsers).

    Thanks

    António Correia "

OK, who's running an Alpha processor?

I think Manex is the fastest (4 hr 05 min 59.3 sec) followed by Rags (5 hr 13 min 06.9 sec).

Arguably, the team member who worked the hardest for his one WU contribution is NawtyPentium75 (138 hr 09 min 30.9 sec). Whew! One suspects that handle is an exageration. That looks like a PalmPilot number.

My last 200 work units have been just under 3hrs each average.

Everyone, don't go by your average hours/wu if you have more than one computer. What is the average time from your fastest computer only? My best is around 5.5 hours, although some of my wu are finished in about 30 seconds

              Hi Brian,

If you are referring that to me, I run only one computer, so what you see is my "fastest" computer.

Kind of an odd thing to ask of a Beta Tester, but ...

                Post Your Specs!

We may be throwing you to the wolves, -er, I mean The Register.

                      </pre>

As Brian noted, this is generally not a good measure of the fastest system a person uses. Also note that "ave_cpu" is in decimal hours.

I'll measure my fastest system today, but I don't expect too much of it; in my case, it's the quantity that counts .

                      Martin

(Oops, that table didn't come out that well; does this fix it?)
(Well, not really, but at least it's readable...)

I like Sony floppies as well. I have trouble finding them though. So I settle for Teacs.
