  • Wanted: Cheezy Motherboard

    OK-
I have a pile of old parts, and my kids are without a PC at the moment. All I need is a motherboard to match the parts I have. Unfortunately, the parts I have would require a bastard child odd-ball mobo...

    What I need:
AT form factor (got a nice AT tower)
    Slot1 (for a celery333a)
    66MHz only is fine
must support 72pin SIMMs (have 64 meg of EDO, and aint gonna buy any new memory at the current prices)

Or an AT SS7 mobo with an AGP slot (but I only have a 166mmx for that).

I have lots of spare parts to trade (but nothing really special...misc soundcards, pci videos, etc). Also have a few games (but again, nothing special).

    ------------------
    P2-450(112*4.5=504), Asus P2B (1010), 128meg pc100, MillenniumG400 32meg DH (5.??), 3com 3c905b-tx, SB Live!value, Dual USR 56k Sporsters, WD 8.4&6.4 UDMA, CL PC-DVD, Mitsumi CD-RW
    Core2 Duo E7500 2.93, Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, 4gig 1066 DDR2, 1gig Asus ENGTS250, SB X-Fi Gamer ,WD Caviar Black 1tb, Plextor PX-880SA, Dual Samsung 2494s

    Hi Kruzin,
    I have a SS7 mobo for you: FIC VA-503+, rev. 1.1a
It's just hanging out in my closet for the past few months -- the dealer sent me (and charged me for) two during an RMA exchange.
    Whatcha got?
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

I have two motherboards sitting on closet shelves: an Abit BH-6 and an Asus P2B-F. Unfortunately, they meet none of your form factor and memory requirements.

Yep, it takes SIMMS and DIMMs, but not at the same time. I think it has two SIMM slots, but I'm not sure. MIGHT be 4. Also is supposed to let you run the processor @ 100MhzFSB while only running memory at 66Mhz, if you want.

I don't have one but you might keep your eyes open for a Tyan S1830S. IT is a Slot 1 BX chipset board with an AT form factor.

I'll keep an eye open here.

FIC-VA-503+ boards have 2 dimm and 4 simm slots. I use them at home and have built many others' systems with them...and you can use the dimms and simms at the same time...just cant install them all at once...simm1 and dimm1 cant be put in at the same time...nice boards and VERY configurable....

                just my .02$ worth.....

Thanks for the advice, all. I have cut a deal on a VA-503+, and K6-2. I would still like to find a BX solution for my slot1 celeronA, so if anyone comes up with anything, let me know

If I wanted a nice shiny 486, I'd just go open the closet. I have enough old parts to build at least 3 of em
Unfortunately, even most 6 and 7 year old's games these days require more juice than that...

actually, I just sold one of those fic va-503+ rev 1.1a boards with a k6-300 o/c to 350, It was a pretty good board except for not being able to go 2x agp, also, it had my old Mill g200 8mb sg, I bought both when they first came out, many sleepless nights
