  • Which US shop accepts & ships orders from Europe ?

    Hi,

I need a reliable US-shop that accepts international orders via credit card and ships to Europe too.

I already e-mailed several shops I found at www.pricewatch.com but they all told me that international shipment is not possible at all or that I have to prepay by wire transaction, which is of course far too expensive.

Do you know a shop that can do that ?

    Thanks in advance

    MK

ChenSoft - thanks for your reply. But unfortunately outpost.com don`t have the graphics card I need. I want a Radeon LE (not the VE !) because I know how to turn it into a real Radeon DDR card @ 183/183 with HyperZ enabled just by flashing the bios. And the card can be found on pricewatch for 70$ !!

This price in combination with ATI`s 2D quality makes it a real bargain. Too bad, that its ONLY sold in Asia and the US - therefore I`m looking for a US shop.

      Any alternatives ?

Depends on what you want to buy, of course :-)

I bought my MAX directly from Matrox, order books at Amazon and DVDs at DVDempire.

Be prepared to be hit by additional 20% custom and VAT, BTW, if your order incl. s&h is worth more than DEM 50. The packet will then be stuck in German customs for 7 to 21 days, so don't spend money on Fed Ex but use the standard US Air Mail; I've been ordering DVDs from the US every two or three weeks since 1998, and have never ever lost one parcel.

Gifts are not subject to customs, so try adding gift wrap, some phoney message ("Happy Birthday! Enjoy your DVDs!") and different billing and shipping - adresses, like friends. Usually they don't fall for this any more, but it used to work till the end of 2000 ... :-(

        Ciao, Pelle

Pelle - thanks for your tips. But there seems to be no US shop with the Radeon LE in stock that is shipping to Europe ...

                Gurm-

found an article over at an ATI fan site. There people were modifying their Raeon LE`s to full Radeon DDR cards.

Please make sure that you do not try to buy or modify a Radeon VE. It has a completely different core with less rendering pipelines and added dual head support.

Be aware that there are 2 different ways of modding the Radeon LE:

                1) install cooler / reactivate HyperZ in registry / use powerstrip to push the mem & core from 148 MHz to 166+ MHz [just temporary, only possible in Windows]

                2) install cooler / flash a new bios (which sets the card back to 166/166 default speed and activates HyperZ) / use powerstrip to push the mem & core from 166 MHz to 166+ MHz [fixed modification, card is full Radeon DDR on all operating systems like Linux]

I would prefer to flash the new bios and additionally use powerstrip to push the card to its limits.

To read the full story head over to the forums of www.rage3d.com. All the neccessary files you need for the permanent hack including the correct bios file were sent to your hotmail account.

                Greetings

                MK

                    Dilitante,

It works on any Promise-equipped board. I think there are hacks for the HPT as well but I don't know them.

                    Step 1:
Go to http://www.stormpages.com/crazyape and read all the stuff there. See if you can make head or tail of it.

                    Step 2:
DO NOT solder anything onto your board, or mess with the drives. Take two U100 cables, and CAREFULLY remove one of the plugs from the first one. Now, equally carefully, line that plug up on the second cable, a couple inches below the first drive plug, such that the pins of it are set to cut through the wire the same way they did on the other cable. This is a bit tricky, but once you're done you have a 3-drive cable.

                    Step 3:
DO NOT ATTEMPT to hook 3 drives up to this cable. Instead, put the resistor you got (per the instructions up on stormpages) into the appropriate holes on the connector... you might need two resistors depending on which chip is on your mobo... and electrical tape it all up.

Step 4: Do all the bios flashing, etc. and you're done!

                    - Gurm
