My first PC was an Atari 800XL. The silver and black model with the cartridge slot in the top. Had it hooked up to a 13" black & white TV and had a tape drive for storage. And if I'm not mistaken this model had 128KB of RAM. Top of the line I tell you.

No need to tell me! I have one! Not silver and black though - it was beige and brown with silver buttons down the right hand side of the keyboard. Fantastic machine that was... It only had 64Kb of RAM though. I'm certain of this because when my 800XL was broken (trod on - snapped mainboard into two) we got an Atari 130XE (grey in colour, looked a bit like an Atari ST). Now THAT was cool! It had twice the RAM of the 800XL - 128Kb (almost hence the '130' in '130XE'). I never got a disk drive for it though, I had to put up with the tape drive from the 800XL.

God, did I spend years playing with those two computers. I can still remember as you turned it on and it made that PHPHPLHLPHLPLHLHLPLH noise as it booted.

Wish I had gotten one of those when I was a kid. I remember seeing Pong for the first time in Sears. They had it set up along the main aisle and you could stand there all day and play it. Later, they had the other Atari (was it the 5200 or 2600?) with that cool game where you shot down barrage balloons and such. There were always packs of kids standing around waiting to play it. Ah, those were the days.. except I never got one.
