  • Graphic Chip Price War?

    Hi
I read from NEWS.COM that NVIDIA had cut the price of its graphic chip by approx. 30%. Will ATI and MATROX follow the same strategy?
    See:

I bet they cross-charge them to their board making department though!

Today I walked into an EBX (Electronics Boutique's spinoff company) at the mall, and saw the following sign:

"The Video Card War Is OVER!"

It was an ad for a particular brand of GeFarceMX... err... GeFarce400... err... MX400... err... no wait, that's a Diamond Copyrighted Name (tm)... err...

Have I mentioned before that nVidia is entirely staffed by crackheads, halfwits, and inbred mongoloids?

Their marketing strategy is absurd, their release cycle is more absurd, and their cards suck ass. WHY OH WHY are people buying these damn things and perpetuating the cycle of idiocy? WHY!? WHY WHY WHY?!?!?!?!

P.S. Yes, I think I do need some sleep.

although, there are some good points there, maybe have a sleep, look er over again, and make the statement more legible?

Ok, although I've made the point before... I'll make it more legible. Although, I must admit, I'm QUITE drunk at the moment (this has been proofread, honest!) so it might be a bit skewed.

nVidia is on crack. Yes, that's right. They are smoking the crack cocaine!

Here's the problem. Walk into an Electronics Boutique (or a CompUSA, or whatever, it doesn't really matter).

On the shelf will be 5 shiny new cards.

All of them have the words GeForce in their title.

All of them claim to be the bestest graphical accelerator known to man.

All of them list the same feature set on the back.

              Yet, they cost (in order) $100, $150, $200, $250, and now $500.

Why on EARTH would you, as Joe Average Consumer, EVER buy the $500 card?

You wouldn't. Even if you weren't cheap, you'd buy the $250 card, maybe. But most people would buy the $99 card because they all promise the same thing - graphical nirvana.

Why has nVidia created 5 independent platforms and marketed them all to the same segment?

              Because... THEY ARE ON CRACK.

              That is all.

              Good night.

Come on Gurm, it's ingenious! One product at various prices all sold with marketing spin!

They target all income ranges, from low to upper class. The one's that can spend do and think they get the best. The ones that can't spend less and long for more, but there is no more.
