Sorry to stick my nose in your topic, but in case ya didn't know, there is a prog that strips the ad banners out of ICQ (which annoyed me to no end). FYI.

Even better, I'm using ICQ 98a. No, the history and contacts from 2000a don't work here, but I emptied out all the histories into text files. 98a isn't bloated, and takes 1/2 second to load, compared to 10 seconds for 2000a I have no need for any of the 2000a features, so this is no problem for me

I've been using 2000a for some time now, and that version doesn't show any banners at all... That's a 2000b-thing.
But you're right, it takes a tad long to start but it's liveable.

Kaj, your incorrect... I'm running 2000a also (and two other versions) and have had the ads for about 3 weeks now... people in other parts of the world are affected at later dates. Just wait they'll get to you soon enough.

Of course I'm not afflicted by them now that the "I Love Jordan" hack has fixed it.

For those of you without the technical skills to figure this out yourself, here's the guide for removing the banners from ICQ.

Hmmz.. Jord gave the advice to make my cachefiles readonly, which I did, but I find it hard to believe it takes Mirabilis at least three weeks to implement this ad-thingie.

Man! That's too much work to get rid of a little banner. It really doesn't bother me THAT bad.

ICQ is arguably the best program that has come out for keeping in touch, and it's FREE. I'll deal with the banner, and might even click it every now and then just to show some support to the advertisers. I feel like it's a small price to pay for such a cool program.

(No I don't work for ICQ and this isn't a paid advertisement)

True H&J, but those don't say "I love Jordan"
