  • The most democratic country in the World

United States of America is truly the most democratic country there is. One can't even win a public voting by getting most of the votes. Oh no, that would be too much. After all, it's unfair to the other candidate if he/she didn't get as much votes, and is thereby entitled to a fair trial where the actual result will be solved.

    Just my €0.02.

It is done this way because it is based on the belief that the population as a whole is stupid.

No it's not. It is done this way because our framers were concerned that no one would want to expand into the other reaches of the continent because of fear of "Lack of Representation". How does the electoral college take care of this? Well, it's a byproduct of the compromise we made in our legislative branch of government. If you remember they had a huge argument that some states wouldn't be represented fairly in congress because of their lack of population, and this would result in people not wanting to live in these states. Doing this gives our legislative branch a means to represent the smaller states that don't have the population to protect their intersests. The electoral college was, in part, devised this way so the same states wouldn't have to fear about the executive branch as well.

Now, is it good or bad? Well, it's debatable. I don't really care for the electoral college, but it really does have its arguments for being there.

As far as who got the most votes in this country, well no one really knows who got the most votes nationwide.
