  • Winamp Locker?

i was wondering if i should signup for winamp locker.... 3 gigs free space for my mp3's..... that should be enough for me at the moment

i was thinking of using it as my secondary backup... in case my tape drive bails on me, and it looks to good to be true..

    what do you guys think?

One of my concerns would be Big Brother (or rather, Big Brother's punk tough-guys, MPAA/RIAA). With all the lawsuits going around, I'd just as soon no one knew what MP3s I had laying around... Having to produce all those CDs at trial could be, well, interesting...

MP3.com got busted big-time for doing the same thing about a year ago, so I'd stay FAR away until the dust settles.

I'm not sure exactly what Winamp Locker does, but MP3 got busted for buying the CDs themselves and storing the MP3s of the songs online. If Winamp lets you store YOUR MP3s, I think that MAY be okay.

Either way, I'd probably pass on anything that tells the authorities what I have on my computer.

They sure do. Probably cookie tracking as well. Besides that, you can be tracked. From locker to NSP to ISP to log files, they can get your IP/identity.
