  • Opening up FAQs Forum for peoples posts?

    Hi Guys'n'gals,

Your opinion please on whether or not the FAQ Files Forum should be opened up for public posting. Not meaning you can dump any old drivel there, but things that you & others (friends, relatives?) find useful and want to tell others about.

It would be nice if you could post whatever FAQ Answers you wanted (!!No TSB material!!) by yourself.

    So, opinions please?

    Jorden.

    no thanks!

FAQ info should not be posted by everyone, because there will be no control any more over what will be posted.

It is fine as it is....

I'd have to agree with dZeus. Besides, you've done a fine job of both adding things that we've asked (or told) you about, as well as of finding useful topics from the other Fori. Keep up the good work.

I agree with dZeus and Ace. That particular forum needs some control. If someone has something to say, they are free to send it to you to check the facts. If you agree with the information, then post it.

Hej Jord, zo'n forum zou misschien voor ons ook wat kunnen wezen... Nu loop ik steeds mensen door te verwijzen naar de FAQ, die niemand schijnt te lezen

Heb je het nog met Ant over een Mod-forum gehad?

Sorry about the Dutch language in here, I think that this FAQ-forum of MURC is a great idea, and imho may not opened up for others than Mods/Ads.

No, but I think you should be fine with moderators of other the forums moving threads or posts there.

Okay, so the FAQs stay closed. The other mod's are welcome to send any thread there that they think is right.

Could we not open the FAQ forum and have a web page listing the 'approved' FAQs? I doubt the forum will get all that much traffic so sorting the useful from the useless shouldn't be that hard.

It will also let people add stuff easier.

You could always have a permanent link to the FAQ page from the FAQ forum (and have links elsewhere too). So if people have any questions they should be given a nice little MURC flaming if they ask one from the FAQ. Ok, maybe not a flame but kindly referred . I just went to AGQ2 for the first time in ages and was forced through the pain of answering 'My G200 doesn't play Quake 2 in OpenGL' - anyway, I think having a FAQ page would work - nobody really seems to use the search function much (I've only used it a couple of times I think) so having a more prominent FAQ section would help anyway.

Paul, what do you think the FAQs forum is for, and the Archives? Or didn't you notice we have an Archive as well?

I've set up this FAQ Files forum together with Ant, and I only asked the people here if we should open them up for public to answer in, because of the very nice post Kruzin made.

I've even asked Ant to try to setup a forum within that forum where people could post their FAQs, so I could hunt after them. That won't work under any UBB as of yet.

A permanent link from the little FAQ up on top of every page is a good idea. Yet read Kaj's post. He made a FAQ for the forum he's one of the Admins of, and no-one reads those FAQs.

Same goes for the Forum Survival Guide you see above every forum. How many times have people pointed flamers and even users to that guide? Plenty of times !! And do people learn? .....

So, we might want to advertise the FAQs Forum more, we might want to advertise the Archives more. But until that time, I'm watching over the FAQ Files Forum, posting there.

Yes, I'm still the moderator of the FAQ Files Forum, though not advertised as such by tag. Anything you think that is useful enough to get onto the FFF, email me, or you who know me, ICQ me about.

                              Jorden

Hmm, hope I didn't sound nasty that last post

I tend to agree with you about the FAQ thing but I think that a small FAQ page would be better than the archive. I had noticed the archive and am just back from my first visit.

I did read the forum guides when I first joined (just to find out about the smilies) though with the nature of forums being people asking questions you'd think they would go to the FAQ first! Or rather we'd hope. I will step down on this however, I think a faq page might be better than the archive but not by much.

I didn't want to sound too much like a critic the way I was, er, criticising but all in the name of improving the fori!

Incidentally, I'll probably be adding UBB forums and FAQs to my <a href="http://homepage.ntlworld.com/paul.mccarroll/hosted/arena">site</a> so if I reach MURC quality levels I'll be very happy !

                              Paul.

Edit: Oops, those html links really need both quotation marks!
