• Benefits of Licorice?

This report seems to contradict what we know from resurch by MURC Members (*cough* Jorden *cough*), and shows some positive effect of Licorice. You would think with the negative side effects we have knowledge of, would cause decreased activity levels thereby causing you to burn less fat and hence increased fat levals.

"Could Licorice Help You Get Lean?
...
For adults battling body fat, the results of a new study could make them feel like a kid in a candy store. Eating black licorice regularly may reduce body fat without any side effects"

Here's the whole article:

I think that paying attention to your food is what causes you to lose weight more than any paticular food you eat. Putting people on a diet of bubble gum wrappers would probably have a similar effect. Eating on auto pilot is what causes a lot of problems.

Mark, stop smoking and eat more black licorice. It might ruin your sex-life (and btw, it was JamesA who said that!), but you will be a lean, mean, women machine

Jord, eating about 500 gram of black licorice a week.

Right about now, you're probably thinking to yourselves, "Isn't this a contradiction? Jord, who eats a heck of a lot of black licorice, says it might ruin your sex life.... but you'll be a lean, mean women machine. Well, we know he has a woman... but surely he must be putting us on about the sex life issue, then? Isn't he?"

I don't usually kiss and tell, but I am, as I have always been, eminently bribeable.... place your bids now! (I could really use a BX board and a CPU upgrade, not to mention a 128MB stick of PC100 RAM to call my own....)

Looking at the state of my bank-account, it'll be a bid of -900 guilders and my own 2 cts
Or do you want ?

Btw, you can be a lean, mean, women machine, eat licorice, burn fat, have low bloodpressure, and have a lousy sex-life. Isn't that what the pornsites were made for?

Btw2: what does sex have to do with being a lean, mean, womenmachine?

Btw3: I'll sleep on the couch...

Jord.

Well combining a couple of threads...
Holly maybe you should use a licorice whip to help Jorden remove his foot.

Mark F., you're a lifesaver!

What would I do without you wonderful MURC-ers to help me solve these little problems ??

what does sex have to do with being a lean, mean, womenmachine?
You see what I'm dealing with here ?

Oh well, Holland is beautiful, anyway...

And they do have lots of licorice to practice my whip-making skills on....

Here's the herbalist's answer: Herbal Information Center - Licorice - Herbs

But you'll probably be more familiar with it in this form: Gummis & Licorice.

Here's the study JamesA was originally talking about: Study shows licorice can reduce testosterone levels in men an average of 44%

Gotta run: Jord is searching out links too and I want to beat him (heheheheh) to the 'submit' button .

licorice
European, blue-flowered perennial (Glycyrrhiza glabra) of the PULSE family; also, the sweet substance obtained from its roots, used medicinally and as a flavoring. It is cultivated chiefly in the Middle East.

That's what I grew up with... but in Holland they call it "Drop" and it comes in many shapes, like this:

Are we all clear on the "licorice" thing, now ?
