  • Zone Alarm Question

ZA shows a download rate of about 5/6 Mb a second!!!!!!! (pretty good for a 9.6K connection)

It also shows 5 IE sessions when in can only 'see' (via task mon) 3.

    Should I be concerned?

Paddy, I think there's nothing you could do, anyway... once you've let "Windows Explorer" past the Internet Lock (I assume you keep the Internet locked), anything IE (which is part of Windows Explorer; this integration thing just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it?) wants to do you can't stop it but by stopping the things you do want to do as well.

But afaik, probably additional processes are such things as ads loading in the background (which are separate from the page, but do not get their own Taskbar entry, obviously). Also might be sounds or images loading from another site.

If you're really concerned, get the address from the text log and run a whois search on it.

But it does seem to me that there's no way to prevent all possible hostile access but by not being on the Internet. But if you use ZA on Internet Lock and High settings for both Local and Internet security, remove all the bindings but TCP/IP from the network settings in the Control Panel, and take your actual name out of the User Info and the PC name in ther Registry, though, there's very little that a hostile intruder can use to harm you, though.

'Course, I'm a Netscape user who's tried Outlook (grrrrrrrrrrrrr) maybe twice.....

Don't worry too much, I say. Don't forget, you're mostly going to perfectly safe and legitimate sites, anyway.

    Right ?
