  • G400 thinks my camcorder footage is macrovision protected

Whenever I use my camcorder, (an ageing but fully working Sony TR805 Hi8) to record something, I like to manually wind the tape forward a little between each shot. I find this useful for searching parts out at a later date. The downside of this practise comes when I transfer the video to my PC using the Matrox G400 PCTV capture program.

If I don't stop the capture sequence before my camcorder hits a blank bit of tape, the whole sequence is rendered useless, as the Matrox software complains I'm trying to capture a Macrovision encoded video.

Clearly the detection algorithm can't distinguish between genuine video, and the loss of signal that occurs when the camcorder doesn't actually output a picture - because there isn't one there.

Does anyone know a way to prevent this happening. It is very frustrating to have to cut short recorded camcorder footage, just because the capture software decides it isn't valid.
