Hello.
Welcome.
First thing to learn about this place is that the we like to keep on topic. Please feel free to post any questions or answers about Matrox related hardware here.

But if you just want to chat about nothing in general (as this post seems to be), the place to do that is in the "Soapbox" forum. Just go to the bottom of this page, select "Soapbox" from the Hop To selections, and post away http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/smile.gif

And never worry about your language skills with us. We have posters from all over the world here, and don't expect English to be everyone's first tounge (you will often see a thread switch languages when a few people from the same part of the globe show up).

(this thread has been relocated to the Soapbox forum)

Erm....ya...*cough* Ovaltine *cough* ...that must be it =P

Actually, I have to balance it out somewhere. I try to be a nice guy around here for the most part...but I rile em up on a couple other boards out there still. I had just gotten finished with a "less friendly" post over at SysOpt.com, and this was just my way of balancing out the carma
http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/wink.gif

(BTW, that thread at sysopt is here http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum4/HTML/002052-2.html (2pager) if any of ya wanna chime in http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/wink.gif)

Hello, Eric!!

Welcome in!!!

My name is Holly, and I will be your guide during your time here on The Soap Box, or TSB, or The 'Box, as it is known.

Just drop on in anywhere, and be friendly (as you are, posting a "Hello" thread) and you'll be fine.

Kruzin, you read my mind... glad I didn't have to ask where you were breathing fire before your "karma balancing" (don't tell anyone, but I kinda miss watching you in action since that long-ago day I ran into you in the Shark Tank http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/smile.gif)...

Just read the thread, KK...

<font size=5 font color=green><center>You <u>go</u>, boy!!!</font></center>

Wish I had something to contribute a bit more pertinent than moral support, or I'd be happy to pop BBA one on your behalf (for the honor of the MURC, of course... http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/wink.gif)

But you're doing a fine job, did I count 2 new MURCers resulting from your efforts?

Cool, dude!!

Holly verstaat er toch nog niet zoveel van http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/wink.gif

Hello Eric Fang. Like Kruzin said, don't worry about your English skills. Lot's of folks here born and raised with English and still have trouble with it!

Hi Eric !
Don't worry about your english ,as everybody has told you before. I'm french, and nobody ever did me a remark about my english level... (which of course doesn't matter much when quoting benchmark numbers ;-) )

Ok, I'll keep the secret http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/wink.gif

I was working with some dutch guys for two years, and after a while, for some reason they started talking very fast between themselves or on the telephone (company secrets) http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/biggrin.gif

I wonder why... http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/wink.gif

Hmm.. Neither FreeTranslation nor BabelFish could translate Dutch.

I don't speak Dutch at all, but we can always guess.
Anyway, let's see what do we have here...
I assume it is somewhat similar to German (which I have learned without much success for a few years).

Ik kan zo Nederlands praten tegen Martin of Hunsow, als we dat willen

"Ik kan" looks like "Ich könne" which is "I can".
Nederlands is obviously the Netherlands.
Willen = to wish \ want something

-> I can -something something-, as we wish to.

>Holly verstaat er toch nog niet zoveel van

verstaat = understand
zoveel = so viel = so much

I guess this is something like "Holly doesn't understand much yet."

HollyBerri

thanks fds... that's about what I figured too.. As far as I (guess), Jord basically said that he can speak Nederlander with Martin (or Hunsow) when they feel like doing so, but I don't understand much yet... (He doesn't mention the big kick he gets out of speaking Dutch around me and watching me struggle with it http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/icons/icon2.gif ).

Then Jord asks Pertti how s/he knows Dutch, which Pertti answers in English.

You're right fds, Babelfish, Altavista, et. al. don't handle Dutch, which stinks imo-- the only online Dutch phrase translator (as opposed to dictionary) I know of is Triumvirate at http://www.triumvirat.net/translate.htm -- but if you try to put that text in, you'll be hard-pressed to come up with "doesn't understand much yet" from what you get back....(Naturally, I didn't try to translate my name http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/wink.gif) Interestingly, if you put in the whole sentence, though, you only have to take alternate suggestions for a couple of the words to get a very understandable English sentence (taking into account that many other languages have a different word order than English, which fortunately I know about already).

Ah well, guess I'll have to do it the old-fashioned way... http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/frown.gif

Thanks for the link, this Triumvirat looks really interesting. It is supposed to be able to translate Hungarian as well.
(That's where I'm from. http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/smile.gif)

Unfortunately it keeps saying

Error: Dear Sir/Madam,
You have exceeded your daily free word translation quota.

Oh well. I don't have a problem understanding English and hope neither do others deciphering me.

Then Jord asks Pertti how s/he knows Dutch, which Pertti answers in English.

Errrm, I didn't ask Pertti how s/he knows Dutch, I asked how we would translate the whole above exchange http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/wink.gif
