• I Got Mail!

I just get a thunderous amount of spam at work. Much of it is just naked sleeze (advanced degrees from "prestigeous non-accredited universities," porn site stuff, etc.). The other day, I got a particularly interesting message. Several felonies appear to have been committed.

Let me put my cards on the table. I personally don't agree with the marijuana laws in the United States. However, the idea of a spammer facing hard time in a federal penitentiary, for whatever reason, has its appeal.

The message itself, along with details, will follow my signature. Now, don't get any ideas about using this service, because it just might be a law enforcement agency practicing some e-commerce entrapment.

Any ideas?

I'm with you, Patrick...!

But, in fact, aren't all the felonies committed by the buyer, not the seller (unless said seller actually sent the stated goods)?

Offering pot for sale in those small amounts is, I think, a misdemeanor... and I'm not even sure that it is illegal via the Internet, though it certainly is violation of the TOS of the ISP in question (which is not a crime, to violate the TOS). But up to this point, the person could claim it was a joke.

Now, if you sent your money into the void (or, Heaven forbid, your CC#), I think that is a crime-- since you are now obviously attempting to buy an illegal substance. But if you only bought one quarter-pound, I think it's still a misdemeanor (but the limit may be an ounce, a qp may be too much).

And naturally, if the idiot sent it, s/he is now committing a felony-- or actually two, I think-- whatever corruption of the mails is called, and transporting illegal substances across state lines...

.... I don't see how that fool expected this to work, mailing off a blind mailing list (upon which any of the individuals might be a police officer, a US Marshall, or a postal inspector), when s/he has to give some kind of traceable e-mail address in return to get the "sales"....

Jerk.

Unless it is entrapment, upon which subject let us not get started...

The transportation of illegal narcotics across state lines and use of the mail for these purposes is, I believe, feloneous. I believe it it is a federal crime as well, and the penalties may include being the mistress of a large, surly inmate.

It is an AOL address, so I wouldn't be surprised if a police agency was involved.

ROFL!!!!

How did I know you were going to say "America Online" at some point...!

The more things change, the more they stay the same....

Did you hear about the $8.4 million insider trading scheme that began in an AOL chatroom?

Can you say "begging to get caught?"

LOL....

If you're stupid enough to buy pot over e-mail, from someone you don't know, you deserve everything that happens to you.

If you want to get high in the privacy of your own home, it's none of my business.

But please, they should invent a new class of felonies that consist only of people doing stupid things...

Imagine the cell block for all the people who:

- bought pot over e-mail from a stranger
- drive slow in the left lane
- picked Cincinnati to win the NCAA knowing Kenyon Martin snapped his leg a week before the tourney
- wear speedos to the beach (sorry non-Americans - it's just gross)
- subscribe to AOL

Why is it that EVERY time I hear about someone who got "busted" for something "illicit" or "illegal" online, they were on AOL?

News Flash: kiddie porno ring busted! 8 AOL users were arrested today after they were caught distributing child porno!

News Flash: insider trading busted! 40 people who did insider trading in an open AOL chat room were arrested today...

News Flash: online drug dealers busted! An AOL user was arrested today for selling drugs online!

News Flash: software pirates busted! 25 computer software pirates were arrested today, after offering their "warez" in an AOL chat room!

*sigh* friggin morons.
