  • To Matrox or anybody: Help with consistent g400icd.dll crash

Sometimes in Half-Life, when I leave a multiplayer Internet game and then click "join" on another game, the console appears and the game begins to load, but then it goes back to Windows and yields an invalid page fault in g400icd.dll. Simply restarting Half-Life and trying to join the game again allows me in, and I can play it just fine forever without any illegal operations, page faults, or lockups. The page fault occurs ONLY when I leave a game and join another one.

BUT, that's not the error I'm concerned about -- this is: I tried running the nVidia TreeMark demo (from ftp://ftp1.detonator.nvidia.com/pub/treemark/treemark.zip) and it consistently gives me 4 specific page faults in g400icd.dll after it has finished running. Here are the results:

The EXACT same 4 page faults appear after running either simple.bat or complex.bat from TreeMark, regardless of video or hardware settings (I've tried everything). These results occur with the ICD from the 5.25 drivers. With the ICD from the 5.13/5.15 drivers, I still get 4 page faults, but they are not from g400icd.dll, but rather a few "unknown modules" and ddraw.

I know that the G400 ICD is still being worked on, and I hope that this information will be of some use to Matrox in stabilizing it, although I have read elsewhere that many people have not had any problems running TreeMark on their G400s (although I'm certainly not the only one getting TreeMark crashes), so I'm forced to wonder if there is a compatibility problem between the G400 and some other hardware in my system. (Maybe the memory??)

    My system specs:
    Celeron 433 PPGA + slotket
    Abit BH6 v1.1 Bios NK
    128MB Micron PC133 CAS2 (2 64MB sticks)
