  • Can i get anything more from my G400DH 32MB(not Max!) ?

I have bought my G400DH 32MB a year ago and to be specise it has been 14 months since then and the more time i spent with it the more i...well you know...

    My system
    P3/800E@992Mhz Slot 1
    ASUS P3V4X(Via Apollo Pro 133A chipset)124FSB
    128MB 8ns PC100 SDRAM
    Matrox Millenium G400DH 32MB 6ns SDRAM

I have tweaked every part of my system:
Bios and memory tweaked using software(i.e. 4-way, CAS 2 blah blah blah...)
Fixed windows cache size optimized for 3d applications
Having installed 6.04 drivers which by the way are the fastest available(slightly faster than the 6.10s), DX8(no that it makes any difference but...), latest drivers for my Via appolo chipset and vgagpv0.4 in turbo mode.
Optimised the powerdesk for the G400 and used MGATweak v1.2b(of course) to overclock my G400.

    My MGATweak settings are:
    dividers: 2.5/2/2.5
PLL clock: 423 which gives 169/211Mhz (i am quite impressed by the overclocking tolerance of the 6ns memmory.45Mhz beyond specs!!)in core and memmory respectively
    SDRAM: 3,1,3,8,3,1,fast,1,1,1,0.2,0.2,2433
I have already installed a fan on my g400's heatsink.

I am 3D mark2000 points hungry and any more suggestions on how to overclock my g400 more would be appreciated

Use could try doing the H.ODA SoftFSB trick... launch 3Dfarq2k then bump up your fsb after the program loads. Once the fsb is raise, run the benchfarq. That's garranteed to increase your penis size by at least 20%!

Actually i am not complainig about the marks.I know they are pretty high for such a card. But i dont want to change my favourite g400 card for at least a year. I am just looking new ways for improving my already existing system without the addition of new hardware. Its the satisfaction of having tweaked every part of your pc to the limit that CAN operate. No less, no more. . Noone can deny that to a hardware enthusiast.I only asked for suggestions, not for insults.

Unless you can cool the G400 chip better or replace the mem chips with faster, you're at the Max limits.

                  How's that?

Well, actually it is possible to get a bit more out of a G400 DH 32MB TV:

                    with this setup I achieve

                    180/216/180 with 3,1,3,7,3,1,fast,1,1,1,0,0
rock stable! As you said SH, it's surprising what that card can do with the right tuning. So, get 2 big fans and a blue orb and try it out!
(btw, it is also always a good idea to have a big tower and at least 4 fans blowing in and out of it, espacially when your whole system is o/c'ed)

                    I hope that was helpful,

Your setting get me a big suprise!!!!

                      [My MGATweak settings are:

I have already installed a fan on my g400's heatsink.]

                      My MGATweak settings are:
                      dividers: 1.5/2/1.5
PLL clock: 300 which gives 150/200Mhz in core and memmory respectively
                      SDRAM: no O/C.
No fan on my g400's heatsink.

The core of 3Dmark2000(defult) is 3100.

                      My system : AMD-K7-700Mz, G400-SH with 32SDram, 256M SDram.

I want to get ~3500core of 3Dmark2000, anybody give me any setting for my display card and suggest at safe?
And what is the max. setting of core and memory clock respectively?

                      Thank!

                        Thanks DanteX for your advice.
I actually managed to overclock a bit further my G400 by adding 4x80CM fans on the case and got it with MGATweak at 169.71/212.40 SDRAM is now tweaked as:
3,1,3,8,3,1,fast,1,1,1,0.0,0.0,2433 which got me about 33 more points in 3DMark2000.

                        My 3DMark2000 score now is: http://www.madonion.com/compare.shtml?1017728 << 3828

I guess i will switch to watercolling for my G400 if i find the proper one and i hope to reach your range.I am sure that a proper cooling to the core will get me around 180Mhz but i still dont know how much further i can go with my SDRAM even if i attach heatsinks on it...

samshek in oder to overclock your G400 more you should switch to a different divider ratio. I would suggest 2.5/2/2.5 or 2.25/2/2.25

By the way i have noticed that the lower the dividers are the better the performance is, despite if i the same overclocking frequency. For example, with dividers 3/2.5/2 and 160/200 in core and memory respectively, the 3Dmark score is MUCH lower than if i had 2.5/2/2.5 and 160/200. Any info about why is this going on?

I guess its your 5ns SDRAM Aleksandre that allows you to run it so fast.I think i am at my limits with my current 6ns(i wished i had the g400 Max version but when i got mine, Max wasnt in stores yet). Maybe if i add all the cooling equipment i intend to, i will reach at 4k. Maybe its too much??? We will see
