  • An Observation concerning MGA Tweak

Well, I can overclock to 442.80 System PLL Clock. Moderate SGRAM optimizations round out the "tweak". The fill rate performance goes up rather nicely, but overall the performance increase is not as good as I had expected. MGA Tweak uses 4% of system resources. I'm not quite sure if this is off-setting the gains of overclocking or not?

Does anyone have opinions, or suggestions, to offer in this regard?

Well, why don't you just observe the framerates 'before' and 'after', plus add any ill behaviour 'after' (like corrupt textures and such) and base your decision on these factors?
Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

You can also exit MGATweak after you have set your OC, the clock settings and mem ops will be retained by the PDesk drivers. That way, it is not running when you benchmark, etc. and you have a more exact before and after.

Overclocking display card is not the same as overclocking the CPU, where you're almost guarantee to get a nice performance boost. Not every applications/games will benefit from using MGATweak. The major boost of using MGATweak is fillrate, but fillrate is not the ultimate performance factor. The overall performance boost still very much dependant on the types of application/games and system configuration.

Such comments has been a norm in my daily user feedbacks since the very first version of MystCLK. Some people may find it useful, but not all.

This is one of the reasons, that I never answer any questions or requests on the optimum/safe settings on his/her particular system.

Ah yes, I understand. The majority of the games I play are, "in fact", not fill rate limited. This was the primary increase in performance, when overclocking the video card. Ergo, that's why I didn't see the difference in the performance of those games. (DOH!!! )

Thanks for helping me clear that up!

At least now, I'm familiar with MGA Tweak. I know how it is able to raise performance. And I know how to set it up for my system. So I can pull it out for games like UT, that do benefit from it's use. And the rest of the time I can leave things alone.
