  • mpeg2 vs mjpeg

    things I have been told
    - mpeg2(25mbps) and DV is equal to betacam SP quality
    - mjpeg is a higher quality than mpeg2
    - mpeg2 at 5:1 compression is equal to mjpeg at 3:1 compression

I'm deciding between getting a RT2000 turnkey system or a pinnacle reeltime system. The reeltime has component in/out. RT2000 has s-video. Reeltime is mjpeg and can capture at 13 MBps( 1.8:1 ratio)
My question is if i edit betacam SP footage, captured thru s-video on RT2000, will anybody tell the difference?

    Two more questions.
why would i want a soundblaster with rt2000 when rt2000 has stereo audio in/out? what advantages would i get with soundblaster?

what the hell is the difference between DV500 and dc1000. I know that dc1000 can capture data up to 6500 MBytes instead of 3600, but dc1000 doesn't have component YUV in/out anyway, so what's the benefit of higher data rate. in the specs it says mpeg2 quality is 25mbitsps is the highest quality. what good is capture at 6500?
    Very confusing
