  • Value of keeping the features secret

The first instinct a leading graphics chip company would have when developing new technology is to keep it under wraps, have beta testers sign powerful NDAs and so on.

However in the case of the G550 and headcasting I wonder if they would have benefited from the feedback on this as a concept, in advance of developing it. MURC types are a pretty savvy user group, and it looks to me that a majority of people think headcasting is completely ridiculous.

There is only one way I can envision Matrox making money on the G550: to have Compaq and other vendors add headcasting to their checkmarked bundle of what you get inside the box. As a checkmarked feature that is unique, it might help sell that model of computer, just as Gamecam software might for Logitech webcams.

I think this is an old habit from the times when Matrox were clearly the best, the fastest - the ONLY choice for users seeking quality (just speculating here though - they won't say anything about it *LOL)
