  • G400DH W2K Dual Display problems!?

I upgraded my son's system to 5.52 without first checking to see which drivers were currently running. Now I can't adjust the displays independantly like I could before. I was able to set the primary 19" at 1280x1024x85 and the secondary 14" at 800X600X75. Now it doesn't even display the 2 monitors at the settings screen and I end up with having to set them both at the same resolution. I've tried 5.05, 5.31, 5.33, 5.51, and 5.52 - same troubles with each. Any assistance would be appreciated as he outweighs me by 100lbs and has 7" in height on me.

It sounds like you did not uninstall the drivers before installing the new drivers. This is a must-do, and it's very easy to do with win2k, all that is needed (for future reference, you won't be able to do it this way now) is a trip to add/remove programs and select "Matrox Software" and select uninstall, reboot, hit cancel when windows picks up your card, then run the setup for the new drivers, then another reboot.

Now, for you to get back to step one, you are going to have to download the uninstaller utility off of Matrox's website, and run it. Reboot, hit cancel when windows picks your card up, then run the setup for the 5.52 drivers, select "Add Extra Dual Head support" when you get the chance to do so, and once the install finishes, allow it to reboot your machine. Goto display properties/settings/advanced/dualhead, select use multidisplay, reboot, go back there and click the multidisplay tab and choose the box that allows separate resolutions, reboot again, go back to display properties/settings and select the second monitor and then check the box "Extend my display to this monitor"
You should be back in business.

No, I faithfully used the PD uninstaller for each iteration, maybe I was just holding my mouth wrong. The young monster kicked me out as he needed to use his machine, I will give another go this evening. I may have to do a manual search through the registry to see if PD uninstaller missed something.
      Update:
Got it, used both the MS and Matrox software removal procedures, followed the instructions and this time had the option to select independant resolutions and palettes.
