  • Latest drivers for G200 for Win98 cause corruption

I've just installed the latest drivers for my G200 card. I've also upgraded to the latest BIOS. Here's the problem:

When I have hardware acceleration turned off everything works fine. As soon as I enable ANY hardware acceleration the screen is corrupted and the system freezes. I've gone through the exercise of uninstalling my older drivers and deleting the entries from the Windows registry all to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

    Here's my system:

    Win98
    Cyrix MII-300
    FIC VIA 503+ Motherboard
    128 RAM
    G200 video card

Oh yeah I've also installed the latest drivers for my motherboard the 4-in-1. And I'm sure that the card is fine because it was working great before I installed the latest drivers and also because I've another operating system on my machine and it works fine under that.

    Thanks,

Post your IRQs. Check the FAQs if you don't know how to get an IRQ report.

I have the same motherboard and had the same processor. If you can, upgrade to a K6-2/500 or 550. You'll get MUCH better performance and avoid Cyrix incompatabilities (I finally had to drop the Cyrix banner when shown the difference).
      There's always the VIA standards:
Make sure USB is enabled in BIOS (whether you're using it or not).
Make sure AGP is the primary display.
      Assign IRQ to VGA.
When installing the 4-in-1 drivers, enable DMA for IDE and install AGP driver in Turbo Mode.

Also use the Matrox Tweak Utility v4.18 to set the AGP settings to "default".
      Hope this helps.
      When all else fails, FDISK!

Okay I tried using the tweak utility and didn't help a bit.

        Here are my IRQs:

        00 - System timer
        01 - Keyboard
        02 - Interrupt controller
        03 - Com2
        04 - Com1
05 - VIA PCI to USB Host Controller
05 - IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
        06 - Floppy Disk
        07 - ECP Printer Port (LPT1)
        08 - System CMOS/real time clock
09 - Crystal PnP Audio System CODEC
        10 - Matrox Millenium G200 AGP - English
10 - IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
11 - IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
        12 - PS/2 Mouse Port
        13 - Numeric Data Processor
14 - VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller
        14 - Primary IDE Controller
15 - VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller
        15 - Secondary IDE controller

Doesn't look like any conflicts to me.

        Thanks,

        Christopher Hodges
