  • Probs with G400 MAX again.

WinME/2K = Corrupted lines and machine hangs.
Win2K doesn't even get past the login screen before it hangs with serious gfx corruption. I have tried the recovery disk twice now and have tried the latest bios. Nada. Even different drivers within each OS doesn't help.
WinME seems to not crash as much as Win2K, but still will crash/gfx corruption after a bit of time. It will also crash after I stress it in games or many browser windows.
Any suggestions? I have the latest patches for both OS'es, latest bios/drivers.
This problem happened before and was fixed when I first tried the recovery disk. Now the recovery disk doesn't help.
Everything is the same as in my sig with the exception of me adding 1 more NIC to system(Intel 10mb ISA card)and turning P & P OS to enabled in MB BIOS. Would this cause my problems? Would IRQ conflicts cause this prob?

[Edit: Ooops. Didn't update sig before posting. I used 2.07 BIOS upgrade for my MAX)

Possibly. Post your IRQs for WinME.

What AGP speed setting are you using with your card (use the Matrox Tweak utility - on this site or from the official website) to find out. I reckon it might have defaulted to 4x - which might explain your problems. Set it to 2x or even 1x using the tweak utility and see if that helps. I get the same problems with my G400 max - it seems that it will not run at full Agp speed - which doesn't really matter as the card doesn't need the bandwidth anyhow.

I excuse any spelling/grammar errors - I've just finished doing a 24hour paper for my English degree and my brain hurts!!!

Thanks guys. It was a defective Intel NIC that caused my probs(confirmed on different system). I am currently running my computer in Win2K(too many IRQ probs in WinME. Not enough resources).
