    Matrox: No G800
In closing we’ll leave you with a bit of news that may be sad to hear for Matrox fans. The G800 everyone has been waiting for is officially not going to be released. This was actually what we hinted at the last time we talked about Matrox, unfortunately back then we weren’t able to come out and say it for sure.

Matrox is continuing their stance that they will re-enter the gaming market at one point, but don’t expect that to be with their next card. I know that there are rumors flying around about chip names found in Matrox drivers, but don’t set yourself up for a disappointment. Matrox won’t be focusing on the gaming market anytime in the near future.

Yeah, yeah... I'm sure world+dog already knows we aren't going to get a Geforce3 killer this time.
With that said, I hope M introduces another compatible and well-supported graphics card with excellent picture quality, nice drivers and good support for digital video.
But if G550 is slower than the G400MAX in 3D... THEN I'm gonna cry

I really don't like to say this, but it seems that even Bitboys will get their chip out before Matrox does...

Bitboys started working with their chip in 1998 (with 7-10 employees...)

I assume that Matrox has been working with their R&D since they released G400 in 1999 (or maybe even longer.) (with much more emplyees than bitboys...)

          I don't think so... I think it's another speculation.

Everybody who knows something about Matrox next card, but can't say anything about it because of an NDA, says that it worth to wait. I believe them.

I don't know, WHY the fastest card on the planet is the best gamer card (GF3 is the best? ohh... please no!)? I think that an MX is much better for gaming purposes, than an GTS, because much cheaper and it has some unique feature like TwinView. I think Matrox knows this and their next card won't be a GF3 killer in terms of speed but will have a very good (and long) feature list...

Matrox have never focused on the gaming market, so I can quite believe that they don't plan on doing it anytime soon!
However, I think they're right in saying that the next card might be a disappointment to some, if not many However, we can but hope...

(hope that the next card will offer the relative performance of the G400 in the current generation of video card that is )

And, Nappe1 - I really don't understand your logic Hehe!

Bitboys started their graphics card in 1994/1995. There were prototype Tritech cards.

So they have been working steadily for about 7 years. No card yet.

Yeah, it'll be out sometime soon. SUUUUUURE it will.

well i have some doubts to how much faster this chip will be because ive seen the price for the etv which is 305$CAN with the rebate which is ridiculous in my opinion because it is using a graphics core which is very old and even though they shrunk the die down they havent even attempted to bump up the speed of this chip so maybe this "next" chip will only be a g400max with faster memory core and thats all which is very sad
crossing my fingers that it isnt tho

                    Um... something funny here.
There is no article i=1458 on Anandtech.

                    Reason: it was pulled:
                    http://forums.anandtech.com/messagev...hreadid=411184

So anyone want to summarize the other points in the article? I gather that the GF3 was to come in at $400 instead of $500.

I wouldn't be surprised... to be honest, I have little faith left in Matrox currently.

I am only using my G400 at the moment as I have got to the point where I cannot work without two monitors. I always thought that I was fine until M's next card and wouldn't need to upgrade until then but with everything that we are hearing and the fact that the other makers are doing Dual head there aren't that many reasons to stay with Matrox.

The only real game I play occainsionally is UT and I have no problems there it is when I doing my 3D modelling (most of my time) that I am worried about. Like a few here I am now very tempted by an ATI card and after Computer Arts gave it such a brilliant review it just looks even better.

the best card around has to be the radeon, i mean look at it , it takes the g400 2d power and infuses it wiv real 3d power i keep meeting peeps who had a g400 and switched to the radeon cause it was like the matrox (2d wise) but it had better performance.

btw i just shoved my g400max in a 2nd system and my bro loves it

btw what driver are best to use ? the latest ones ?
