  • SCOOP!! Is this the new G550? PICS!!!

From a usually very trustworthy source I´ve got hold of these pics!!

I was told they were published at a certain taiwanese location, but the url I got was already down, so my source forwarded these pics to me.
    Enjoy!!

Why three VGA heads? Also has a 25-pin header. "Copyright 2001", "ACEM 91V0 33OO".

I don't know why i did this this but here's the math:

        fact 1:
an case hole for isa/pci/agp slots is 10 cm long (usable space)

        fact 2:
an standard VGA-connector is 3.3 cm (i measured the connector from the Matrox dualhead cable)

        the calculation:
        3x 3.3 cm = 9.9 cm

        conclusion:
        3 heads will fit

The g400max had memory-chips on the backside as well. one would think matrox would go for at least one digital connector. something like the livedrive wouldnt be bad.
whats funny is that the top-two vga outs on the bottom picture look like perfect, one egged twins
            no active cooler??
but thats just the way it is with beta-boards i guess

The back looks like a landing platform for spaceships or airplanes, but that's as far as I go about joking.

Why not a 3head videocard? As you can see from this one, you can't fit more than 3 on a PCI card anyway. You could have known that by looking at the back of your G400, and looking at the slot opening it has to come out of !!

Maybe one slot has MMS capabilities, adding at least 16 monitor chances to your 2 already there. Besides, who's desk is big enough to have 3 or more 17" monitors on it, without the desk collapsing under the weight?
Especially with bigger monitors like 19" and 22" the weight on your desk is tremendous !!

Would it be a fake, then it's a real good one. But to be honest, if you don't see an edit from Ant soon, you might be right. If you do see an edit from Ant soon, the SMP has come by, and he's edited out the links

              Tell tale story then.

Whatever the hell they are supposed to be, those pictures are frauds. In both pictures, you can see that the top and middle outputs are exactly the same. Note the turning of the connection bolts, etc. I'm sure if I opened up Photoshop I'd even be able to find the splice lines. Also, In the first picture, there is a really bad coloring job on the top-right corner of the middle head. Not only is it off-color, but it's a piece of plastic that the other two heads don't have.

                It's a poor fake.

<Let's get Ant to post this on the front page too! All the sites will grab it as well and proclaim they have found exclusive G550 pictures!>

That supposed "new" card looks very, very, VERY similar to the card I dug up... interesting!

Well, on the bottom left of the top four memory chips there is a capacitor cut in half.

                      I don´t know but that shouldn´t work.

                      It´s a 100% fake pic.

Right, more guff for the crapper. Look at what components are repeated, and for no reason too methinks

There is one little difference between head 1 and 2 (a little white speck on the lower), but I'd say they're copies too.

And the 'empty' space at the top which has been filled by extra chips, and a copy of the stuff to the right of head 3.

And of course, don't you just love how the shadow of head 2 is offset?

Hehe, can't wait for this to appear on the Register, xbit, and Tom's (though Tom will maybe mistake it for NVIDIA's new card, which will be the first card to offer true multidisplay support on a 4th generation GPU blah, blah, blah...).

                        Um, did I say crapper?

You do notice that the second group of pics shows the same board number as the first group, "ACEM 91V0 33OO", though the copyright is from last year.

It's obviously the same picture from Anandtech after a little editing.

The MURCers are a skeptical lot. Its not easy pulling one over on us. Other web sites, on the other hand, just throw up whatever they hear with no validation (though sometimes indirect, self-validation as we've recently seen ).
