  • Gigabyte G400?

Hey all.. I am on my new occasional part time jobs first day (filling in for the owners of one of the local computer stores when they are away)and I was browsin some ordering books they have and in the gigabyte one there is a GA-MG400 (Matrox G400 SH) available in 16 and 32MB varieties.. and at the bottom of the specs it says Gigabyte Mobo Required... anyone in the know about this (Someone else making boards on the MGA-400 Chip? Or just OEM Boards doctored up by Gigabyte..???)

PS... its on a blue PCB? pretty cool lookin.. LOL...

The Gigabyte G400 cards have no BIOS on them.
The video BIOS is built onto the Gigabyte motherboard.
These cards will only work on specific Giga mobos, and nothing else.
    Core2 Duo E7500 2.93, Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, 4gig 1066 DDR2, 1gig Asus ENGTS250, SB X-Fi Gamer ,WD Caviar Black 1tb, Plextor PX-880SA, Dual Samsung 2494s

These are freaky cards, I believe the G400 BIOS is actually resident on the motherboard hence the requirement.

Maybe it was an accident... the techs were working on the documents in the lab... they went and got some Tim Hortons Coffee and the clumsy oaf spilt it on the papers... effectivly covering over the bios section... Gigabyte... not wanting to catch some flak from Matrox decided to try to decypher the soggy mess and it ended up in pieces and instead of reading... the cards bios must be updated to work with the gigabyte board it read "the updated cards bios must be with the gigabtye board to work it"

Grin... too bad that don't fly because the probably don't have Tim Hortons over there.

              LOL

Pretty cool deal being that I got a Gigabyte mobo.
If it had DualHead, I should had got that one instead of the G450 I own now.
